Lake Tahoe Mountain Biking

Can't really think of a better place to to put this...Anyways, I was wondering how hard the doubles up here are. I can make it down without walking on some of the more tech diamonds like Flameout without too much struggle but not very fast. I clear most of the jumps and ride decently fast on the flowyer ones like Livewire. I'm probably going to be seeing my last visit to N* for bikes this month, so I want to try a double but am I ready? How much harder are they than the harder singles? I've ridden the bottom part of Karpiel, didn't clear the final jump all the way (didn't really want to cause of the braking bumps after it, my suspension needs major tuning) but did everything else. Am I ready for the full run? Or should I wait until next season?

I say pad up and ride it. The trails, they really are not that bad. The intimidation will probably come when your riding the scariest thing you have ever riden and some joker comes by manualing laughing at you, telling you to ride some were else. Just have fun and know your limits. Live to Ride another day!

Double black diamond runs are rocky, have drops, and are well... double black diamond runs. Most people that ride them regularly ride on a full DH/FR bike full armor, and a full face helmet. I know that people will argue that, but those of us that have ridden here for any length of time don't ride them without proper gear.

Hey, thanks. I'll have to try that if I go up. Money is really tight right now and I'd have to rent considering the bikes at the shop with a blown rebound cartridge...Oh well, if we go I'll give that a shot. Thanks!

Brad,

The doubles blacks really vary in difficulty. Probably the easiest section of a double black is the part of Karpiel right after Sinuous, where you can either take that or Flame Out. The parts of Karpiel following that are considerably more difficult. From the top of Vista, I'll usually take Flame Out>Karpiel>Speed Control>Pho Dog.

Boondocks isn't too bad, there are quite a few features on the trail that you might want to go around. The top is pretty flowy, the middle has some good rock sections, and the end has some wide/loose turns, and more features.

So I would give that one part of Karpiel a shot, then get your feet wet on Boondocks!
